CASE STUDY: MURITALA MOHAMMED INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, IKEJA LAGOS, NIGERIA
An Imperative for Development
In 2007, IT was required to provide highly available applications to support Nigeria’s leading International Airport’s operations. IT was also required to maintain a resilient link to the Airport’s centralized services via the corporate WAN, acting as a central hub for other operational sites in the Airport. Therefore, it is imperative to construct a modern datacenter to protect the priceless infrastructure and mission critical Information Systems.
The contract for the construction of the new datacenter was awarded to TOPTECH.
To provide an end-to-end datacenter design and build service to help facilities meet IT demands for zero downtime.
Civil: General Civil Works, Raised Flooring System with Stringer/Pedestals, Perforated Floor Tiles, Fire-rated wall Cladding, Fire-rated false Ceiling, Fire-rated Partitioning of the entire operation area, Ramps, Fire-rated Doors.
Distributed cooling that eliminate hot isle through the use of Liebert HVACs, FM200 Automatic Fire Defence System, Recess Lights,
Access Control Systems, CCTV and Cameras with Infra Red for Night Vision, Sensorprobe Environmental Monitoring System with sensors to monitors Temperature, Humidity, Flood, Direct Current & Alternating Current.
We Constructed a Power Room Separate from the datacenter, Supply Liebert NXA UPS connected in 1+1 Parallel Redundancy Mode, Liebert Precision power Centre(PPC) for effective power Distribution from the Power Room to all server racks in the datacenter, Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS), Electrical Control Panels, Mains Monitoring Panels for the purpose of power distribution, monitoring and control of the entire premises so as to ensure ease of isolation for the purposes of routine maintenance, integrity checks or trouble shooting.
The communication structure cabling was installed by our subsidiary Hafol Resources Limited, a complete ICT solution company. All cat 6 cable is laid horizontally on the aluminum cable tray from the Telecommunication Cabinet (TC) to the server racks. Aluminium Cable Tray is laid under the raised floor across the data center to distribute the Cat6 cables from the Telecommunication rack to the Server racks. Twenty (24) Nodes of data Cat6 cable are installed under the raised floor per 42U server rack. Fibre Optic cables were installed to serve all the boarding gate display screens as well as several IDF’s (Intermediate Distribution Frames) within the finger of the Airport.
Toptech supplied and installed world class structured cabling for both power and communication and provide quality earthing system for the entire installation. The sole aim of this measure is to improve power quality and ultimately system availability.
Through the provision of an end-to-end solution, Toptech has enabled the operator consolidate its computer room requirements into a single data centre to achieve IT data safety, reliability and significant cost benefits as a result of reduced energy usage, maintenance costs and ongoing operational overheads. The Data Centre also provides the required dedicated power source which eliminates any unforeseen downtime during mains failure, a well-controlled environment (with regard to temperature and relative humidity), and network connectivity to other devices within and outside the Data Center. The project was delivered on-time, on-budget and to specification in a smooth and professional manner that ensured a seamless and hassle-free transfer to the new facility.
CASE STUDY : BANK DATA CENTRE
In 2006, Toptech had won a highly contested tender to construct, design and build 2 No. datacentres at the Head Office of a leading commercial bank. This was an accomplished end-to-end solution involving: Civil Works, Aluminium doors and windows, Raised Flooring System, Suspended Ceilings, FM200 Fire Defence System, Liebert Precision Air-conditioning, Access Control Systems, Central Power System, Liebert UPSes, and Comms distribution.
In the wake of global e-banking era, the bank needed to expand its IT Infrastructure at the Head Office to serve as the centre hub for the bank’s growing network across the nation and the world. A zero downtime Energy Centre was required to provide a secure power solution for the Bank’s ever growing datacenters and all other facilities in the entire Head Office tower.
Toptech’s mission was to provide a stable and resilient network power, and guarantee IT uptime at a location undergoing heavy redevelopment with an already unstable mains supply.
Having carried out a thorough power audit of the entire IT infrastructure in the datacenters and the premises making use of our state of the art Power Analyzers, a 1.2MVA zero down time Power Farm was constructed based on Dual Load Bus System (LBS). In conjuncture with standby diesel generators, the following array of products were deployed in the Power Farm: 4 x 300KVA Liebert Hipulse UPS in 1 + 1 parallel redundancy configuration, 6 x 200KVA Data Wave magnetic Synthesizers, 2 x 250A Static Transfer Switches (STS), 2 x 1000A Static Transfer Switches (STS), Liebert Hiswitch, 2 x Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), Liebert LBS Interface Kit, 2600A ASCO Switch, Power Distribution.
After the deployment of the Load Bus System Powerfarm, the Bank has continuously derived benefit as follows;
- Multiple level of redundancy on both cabling and UPS power up to PPC level.
- Automatic Transfer of loads from one UPS to another via the LIEBERT STS without break. The Dual Bus Controls ensure synchronization of inputs to STS every second (even mains inclusive).
- Zero downtime during maintenance as there are multiple power parts that could be adopted depending on type of maintenance being done.
- Provides manual options for selection of preferred UPS source.
- High power availability (100% uptime)
- Provides dual bus for powering servers with dual input, this ensures highest availability.
- Full automation (i.e. once system was commissioned, it required no further operator intervention except during normal periodic maintenance checks)
- Remote monitoring.
The project was delivered on-time, on-budget and to specification in a smooth and professional manner that ensured a seamless and hassle-free transfer to the new facility. |
